West Palm Beach, also known as
West Palm, is a city in Palm Beach County, Florida,
USA. As of the 2000 census, the incorporated part
of the city had a total population of 82,103 but,
according to the University of Florida's 2006 estimates,
the incorporated city had a population of 107,617.
It is the county seat of Palm Beach CountyGR6,
the northernmost county in the South Florida metropolitan
area. The West Palm Beach designated market area,
which includes all of Palm Beach County as well as
nearby Martin, St. Lucie, Okeechobee and Indian River
Counties has a total population of 1,771,940. According
to the 2006 Morgan Quinto Poll, West Palm Beach is
the 14th most dangerous city in the United States.
The Norton Gallery of Art, located just south of downtown,
is the largest art museum in Florida and boasts many
travelling exhibits that runs the circuit of world
class museums. The gallery also offers classes and
seminars. The City holds many annual festivals such
as SunFest, Florida's largest Arts and Music Festival,
the first week of every May along scenic Flagler Drive
downtown.
Weekly events such as Clematis By Night on downtown's
Clematis Street offer live music and a festive atmosphere.
Moonfest is held each year on the 500 Block of Clematis
Street shortly before Halloween, and a seasonal downtown
Green Market is held each winter on Saturdays on Second
Street and Narcissus Avenue.
